As summer break is coming to an end (at least for some us us that have to be back at our respective universities in a few days), our semester abroad is coming to a close as well. The last 8 weeks here have definitely been an experience. I came to this country with just the intention of learning Russian, but instead got immersed in the local lives of Narvites and Estonians. We took excursions to places I would never thought I would have gone on a study abroad, like prison. We did some traveling too. We went to Tallinn and Tartu, and a few of us on our off time went to places like Helsinki and Riga. We learned a lot through our lectures about how Estonian politics and relations with Russia were in depth. We watched a lot of….interesting films, because of one I can never look at pelmeni the same way again. Lastly, my absolute coveted part of this summer was visiting World War II sites and the museum, handling a relics that have been dug up from trenches locally is an experience you just cant get in the U.S.
